ADAPT’s AI Dilemma Café returns to European Researchers’ Night
ADAPT’s AI Dilemma Café returned for START: European Researchers Night at Trinity College Dublin on 29 September 2023. For the evening, ADAPT rseearchers exchanged coffee and snacks for chats about people’s day-to-day interactions with AI.
Based on ADAPT’s Citizens’ Think-Ins series, short AI dilemmas on postcards encouraged visitors to think about the technology we encounter with on an everyday basis, and how it shapes our lives and our interactions with others.
Dilemma postcards based on the discussion scenarios co-created through the #DiscussAI Citizens’ Think-In series prompted people to think about questions like:
What will it be like to live in a cashless society?
What makes a city “smart”?
How does AI impact democracy?

A jam-packed schedule of pop-up talks on ADAPT’s AI research throughout the evening meant that visitors to the Café were engaged in dialogue and debate about ethical AI research.
The AI Dilemma Café was part of the SFI ADAPT Research Centre’s wider ExploreAI showcase for START European Researchers Night 2023.
ExploreAI brought cutting edge research on artificial intelligence (AI) to the Douglas Hyde Gallery in Trinity College Dublin for one night only. Over 650 members of the public joined 30+ researchers to explore the impact of AI on creativity, health and entertainment through several innovative and interactive demos.
