We invite you to take part in a Think-In in Farranfore, Co. Kerry.
This Think-In is an interactive discussion about Healthy Smart Ageing and the role technology plays in our lives as we grow older.
The purpose of a Think-In is to disuss and share your perspectives on the technology you use in your everyday life. Your participation in this event will help researchers create better technology for people like you.
Drawing from your own lived experience, we will discuss the topic of technology and healthy lifestyles through group discussion. The Think-In content was co-created with members of the Smart Healthy Ageing community in County Kerry in March 2023. Participants had the following feedback from the co-creation event.
“It was really informative. All very friendly and made it easy to ask questions”
“I liked opinions and views being shared. Very positive”
“The facilitators were concerned about trying to educate us in the journey into the digital world”
There’s no doubt that technology has made our lives easier. From smart phones that track our fitness, monitor our sleep patterns and turn on our heating when we’re on the way home (and everything in between). But for all the benefits technology brings, there can be challenges when introducing new technology into our lives and homes.
We want to hear from people in Co. Kerry about their experiences of these types of technology. On 9 March, we will be running a workshop in the Centre for Smart Ageing in Farranfore to talk about how this impacts (or doesn’t impact) your life.

Please check back soon as we’ll be announcing some exciting events for 2023.
Can you imagine a time when an app on your phone will be able to automatically translate between signed and spoken languages (a bit like Google Translate)? As automatic machine translation technology improves, an app like this might not be too far off in the future.
SignON is a community-driven project that is developing technology that will mean Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing individuals can translate between signed and spoken languages using translation technology like Google translate.
But how should this technology be developed, and how can we make sure it is guided by Deaf and hard of hearing communities? This event will build on the outcomes of a co-creation workshop held on 12 November 2022. To find out more about the workshop on 12 November, click this link.

Smile, you’re on camera! From taking the bus, to police surveillance and everything in between, we are now being monitored in a way we never have been before.
Join this #DiscussAI Think-In for a lively discussion on the increasing use of public surveillance through Artificial Intelligence and its impact on our day-to-day lives.
Through fascinating discussion scenarios, we will explore and deliberate on the potential benefits and drawbacks of AI surveillance for individuals and society at large.
#DiscussAI Think-Ins are a forum for everyone – citizens, researchers, and industry professionals– to openly discuss the potential future we face as AI technologies evolve. These discussions allow a space to explore together if there is a safe and ethical way for us all to benefit from AI technology.
The event is open to all adults. Note that you don’t need any prior knowledge of AI to participate.
Join us on Saturday 12th November at Deaf Village Ireland to explore how an app for Sign Language translation might work in practice: click here to register

At the workshop
At this Think-In workshop, we will ask for your opinions on this type of technology, and your thoughts on the situations you might see it being used and of benefit.
This event is for Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people. We welcome participants who use sign language regularly, a little, or not at all. Irish Sign Language interpreting, International Sign interpreting, and live captioning in English will be in place for the event.

Then on Sunday at 1pm, join the Think-Ins team for an interactive workshop to consider the impact AI can have on you, your life, your work and your community.
ADAPT’s citizens’ think-ins foster dialogue and discussion among researchers and citizens on the societal implications of emerging Artificial Intelligence innovations.
ADAPT invites you to a virtual knowledge-sharing forum about the outcomes and insights generated by the 2021/2022 citizens’ think-in series.
You’ll hear from participating researchers and our community and evaluation partners.
We’ll share tips for hosting your own think-in in order to stimulate citizen-researcher conversations on STEM research and innovation.
You’ll also find out how you can participate in our new think-in series launching in late September 2022.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email. Joining instructions for the Zoom webinar will be shared again before the event. We look forward to seeing you on 7th September!
The ADAPT citizens’ think-in series is funded by SFI Discover.

To celebrate European Researchers Night, this Think-In will run simultaneously in Malta through our partners: the University of Malta and Science in the City. We’ll therefore get to compare and contrast attitudes to this topic in Ireland and Malta.
The event is open to all adults. Note that you don’t need any prior knowledge of AI to participate.
